City of Westminster
Introduction
Belgravia sits between Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Buckingham Palace and is defined by its elegant Regency architecture, wide streets and private garden squares. Developed in the 19th century by the Grosvenor Estate, the district has long been associated with diplomatic residences and distinguished London living. Today, Belgravia is home to an established international community drawn to its discretion, architectural integrity and central location. While close to Knightsbridge and Mayfair, the area retains a calm and distinctly residential atmosphere.
Area and Architecture
Belgravia is recognised for its elegant cream stucco townhouses, grand terraces and formal garden squares. Eaton Square, Chester Square, Wilton Crescent and Belgrave Square remain among the area’s most prestigious addresses, while streets such as Chesham Place, Grosvenor Crescent and Lyall Street are known for their distinguished period residences. Elizabeth Street is well known for its boutiques, restaurants and cafés. Alongside these historic homes are charming mews houses, tucked away on quiet cobbled streets. There are also several modern apartment buildings, offering private parking and concierge services. The neighbourhood is also home to numerous embassies and diplomatic residences, contributing to its international profile and sustained demand among global tenants and buyers.

History
Much of Belgravia was developed in the early 19th century under the direction of master builder Thomas Cubitt for the Grosvenor Estate. The area was carefully planned with broad streets and garden squares, establishing the architectural character that remains today. A large proportion of Belgravia’s buildings are still owned and managed by the Grosvenor Estate, which continues to maintain strict standards governing the preservation of façades and historic streetscapes. Belgravia has long attracted notable residents such as the former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who lived on Chester Square. Blue plaques across the district mark the homes of many prominent figures from London’s cultural and political history.
